Google AdSense for Android has stopped working

In 2019, Google said: “sunsetAdSense for Android and iOS, prompting users to simply check their online advertising revenue on the site. However, the native Android app was still working fine up until this week, but it’s now completely dead.

update 17.08: AdSense for iPhone and iPad has stopped working for about a day. It’s unfortunate that Google didn’t include an explicit notice to discontinue the feature.

Original 8/13: Opening the app today reveals a yellow circle icon that eventually changes to “No Data” and the AdSense logo, which was never updated to the new style, which features pill-shaped lines and a splash of green to complement the yellow and used blue.

More importantly, you get the “Error Occurred, Try Again Later” toast message. No troubleshooting step, including clearing the cache/memory, consistently resolves this empty stats issue. Meanwhile, the application was removed from both app stores in April 2020, so you cannot delete and reinstall it.

This shutdown was originally scheduled to happen two years ago, but has been delayed typical Google fashion. The company also announced back in 2019 that AdSense for Android and iOS would be “deprecated in the coming months,” but the app continued to function normally up until this week. The only hint was in notifications:

AdSense works pretty good online and is much more modern, but lacks homescreen widgets and a handy icon. Unfortunately, Chrome doesn’t have a Progressive Web App with the default “Add to Home Screen” option that creates a regular shortcut that keeps the regular browser UI intact.

Meanwhile, AdSense for iOS is still working today, but Google will likely bring the changes it made to Android to Apple’s platform in the near future.
