Human Rights Watch (HRW) Public Engagement and Campaigns is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer. The Public Engagement and Campaigns team is the hub for HRW’s digital mobilization and oversees several public engagement campaigns and initiatives each year.
The Senior Graphic Designer is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of design work in support of editorial, paid media, campaigns and digital fundraisers. This position serves as a design hub for printed materials, social media, ads, email marketing, web and GIF design for the organization. The Senior Graphic Designer will oversee the creative and design strategy of all major campaigns throughout the year. The Senior Graphic Designer works closely with our Public Engagement and Marketing teams to coordinate the design for various projects and campaigns.
This is a full-time position limited to three months to cover parental leave. The Lead Graphic Designer will ideally be based in New York or Washington, DC and will report to the Director of Public Engagement and Campaigns, based in New York.
The successful candidate may have the opportunity to work remotely. Our goal is to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both recruiting and onboarding for this position.
Responsibilities:
1. Design graphic content, illustrations and infographics;
2. Develop brand identities for campaigns;
3. Manage graphic designs from conception to delivery;
4. Overseeing the creative strategy for key projects;
5. Implement the Human Rights Watch brand book in everyday projects.
6. Act as a consultant on supplier projects;
7. Ensuring brand consistency across different marketing projects;
8. Make the connection between the marketing and design teams to ensure deadlines are met.
9. Keep up to date with industry developments; And
10. Perform other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, digital technologies, communications, business or a related field is required.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of graphic design experience is required for print materials, social media, advertisements, email marketing, and web design.
Related skills and knowledge:
1. Experience with design tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere and Illustrator) is required.
2. HTML/CSS experience is an advantage.
3. Portfolio with design projects, preferably in the field of non-profit, NGO or social change work.
4. A keen eye for detail, strong project and time management skills, as well as creativity and innovative thinking are required.
5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Other: Applicants must have a valid work permit for the location where they wish to reside. Human Rights Watch is unable to arrange a work permit for this role.
Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional candidates and offers competitive compensation and benefits paid by the employer. His position is based in the United States and the salary would range from $82,000 to $95,000. Salary range outside of the United States varies by location.
